The Narratives Collection

The Narratives Collection encompasses the books from Matthew to Acts which tell the story of Jesus’ life and his ongoing impact on the world.

Each narrative has a unique perspective but together they present a rich picture of Jesus and his work.

The Greek-inspired archway is the centrepiece of this collection’s design and in its centre is the crown of thorns engraved on the keystone holding all things together. This motif draws from one of the grandest themes of the narratives—the coming and conquering of the Kingdom of God and his King. The bookmarks also feature imagery uniquely found at the start and end of each book.

The Collection

Matthew

This bookmark captures the unexpected trajectory of Jesus’ kingship beginning with the visit of the Magi guided by the star in search of the King (chapter 2), to his humble entry of Jesus into Jerusalem celebrated with cut branches (chapter 21), and the conference of all earthly and heavenly authority upon him (chapter 28).

Mark

The Mark bookmark shows the tearing open of the heavens and the descension of the Holy Spirit (chapter 1) and the tearing open of the of the temple curtain (chapter 15) both echoing how Jesus opens a way between earth and heaven, between humanity and God.

Luke

This bookmark illustrates the tangible hope of redemption seen by Simeon as the infant Jesus is presented in the temple (chapter 2) and the realisation of redemption as Jesus ascends into heaven (chapter 24).

John

For the gospel of John, this bookmark captures the disparate but true claims that Jesus is the indomitable light shining in the darkness (chapter 1) and that he is the caring provider to the very end and even after, giving fish to his tired disciples (chapter 21).

Acts

This bookmark illustrates the tongues of fire symbolising the gift of the Holy Spirit which empowers God’s church (chapter 2) and the snake cast into the fire symbolising the unstoppable march of God’s church despite every earthly opposition (chapter 28).
